Erdogan, Trump Hold Phone Talks on Key Regional Issues
The bilateral conversation encompassed trade cooperation—with particular emphasis on defense sector partnerships—alongside assessments of regional and international affairs, according to statements from Ankara.
Erdogan affirmed that Türkiye "will continue to take steps to improve cooperation with the US and advance the relations in all areas in the mutual interest of both countries."
The Turkish leader underscored Ankara's commitment to ensuring the ceasefire and integration framework in Syria is executed comprehensively, noting that his government maintains active coordination with both Washington and Syrian officials to monitor developments.
Regarding Gaza, Erdogan stated he "expressed his hope that the Gaza Board of Peace will achieve fruitful results."
The president further declared his conviction that "ending the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and rebuilding the enclave would pave the way for lasting peace in the region."
Trump unveiled the "Board of Peace" initiative on Jan. 15 as a cornerstone of his Gaza strategy, which facilitated the current ceasefire arrangement. UN Security Council Resolution 2803 subsequently granted authorization to the board in November 2025.
Israeli military operations have claimed over 71,600 lives—predominantly women and children—while injuring more than 171,300 people in relentless strikes since October 2023 that have devastated Gaza's infrastructure.
Violations of the truce persist, with Israeli forces killing 484 Palestinians and wounding 1,321 additional individuals despite the ceasefire, data from the Gaza Health Ministry confirms.
